Job Summary
The Principal Doctor oversees and is accountable for all aspects of the hospital and ensures a high quality of veterinary care, client service, employee well-being, and productivity of the veterinary medical team. S/he ensures an effective and efficient hospital environment, a welcoming, inclusive, and fun culture, medical quality, and business performance of the hospital. S/he leads and guides a team of paraprofessionals to ensure the hospital meets safety and regulations set by the DEA and OSHA and adheres to the veterinary medical board requirements per their state.
Key Accountabilities
Required Qualifications
•State Veterinary Board License current and must be in good standing
•Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
•Current USDA Accreditation (preferred but not required)
•Previous owner of a hospital practice or equivalent management experience of years practicing as a DVM in a hospital setting (preferred but not required)
•Have experience in training associate doctors and paraprofessional staff
Physical Requirements
•Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
•Able to restrain, handle, and work well with patients (i.e., dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.)
•Employee is routinely exposed to various patients that may bite or scratch and, on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
On and Off-Site Work Options
All work must be done on-site or at an approved outside hospital/event location, not at home.
